MARQUETTE -- Criterium bike racing returns to downtown Marquette on Friday evening, and police are reminding motorists of road closures.
Around noon on Friday crews will block off Washington Street between Front and Third Streets. At 3 p.m. Main Street will shut down and then at 5:30 p.m. Front and Third Streets from Washington to Spring Street will close. Detours will be well marked.
"It shouldn't be a major problem," said Captain Blake Rieboldt of the Marquette Police Department. "And there is plenty of parking in the downtown area that will give people that want to access the race that opportunity."
Captain Rieboldt reminds spectators to stay on the sidewalks when getting around downtown during the race.
The first speed jam race starts at 6 p.m. with kids and the serious racers hit the streets at 8:30 p.m.
