BARAGA -- Daniel Nieskes was sentenced in Baraga County Circuit Court on Thursday.

The judge sentenced the 27 year old to two-and-a-half years, not to exceed seven-and-a-half years, with credit for 243 days already served.

Last month Nieskes entered a guilty plea to third-degree home invasion and his other charges, including attempted murder, were dropped.

Letters from the victims of the crime were read to the court, asking the judge to sentence Nieskes to the maximum prison term.

Another victim, Eric Beaudoin, was present and spoke in the courtroom.

“He came into the house with the intent to kill my wife, kill my kids, and his punk a** knew they were there because he asked me if they were going to be there all night, and I told him that four hours before they kicked the door in. He should be doing 40 or 50 years on the minimum for what he did. Three years because he’s a snitch? That’s outrageous, and it makes a joke out of the entire legal system,” said Beaudoin.

Nieskes apologized for his crime and told the judge that he takes full responsibility for what he did.
