COPPER HARBOR -- Parts of the Keweenaw Peninsula are in the dark after a strong storm blew through the area Thursday evening.  High winds knocked down trees and caused power outages.

According to UPPCO, Copper Harbor and Mohawk were hardest hit.  More than a thousand customers were affected.

UPPCO says extra crews have been called in and will be working throughout the night to restore power.  UPPCO says the rugged terrain of the area is making it difficult for utility workers.  They hope to have power restored sometime Friday.
