ISHPEMING -- Cliffs Natural Resources held its fourth annual spring tree planting project Wednesday afternoon. This year, Cliffs partnered with students from the Westwood High School Robotics Team.
The crew planted more than 20 trees along the Iron Ore Heritage Trail. The cost of the trees and other materials was picked up by Cliffs Michigan operations.
"It's all part of our Cliffs sustainability program. Being a good environmental steward is very important to the company, and we like to give back in any way that we can," said Jennifer Huetter of Cliffs Natural Resources. "And this is a great opportunity for us to add some beautification to an area and involve the kids as well."
There are plans to continue the project in future years. Last year, Cliffs planted trees at the Michigan Iron Industry Museum.
