Some rain in the UP, but will it be enough?

There's finally some rain in the UP! It's not much, but it's something, and we should see more soon.

Rain throughout Sunday is looking to be more like occasional light showers. Skies will remain mostly cloudy to overcast all day, but any rainfall will be light. As low pressure approaches our area, winds will shift to a southerly flow. This will keep it cooler near Lake Michigan with highs in the 60s and perhaps low 70s. It should reach the upper 70s and over 80 in the west.

There may be a few clearer spots in the evening hours, but chances of rain and thunderstorms increase overnight as a warm front will be passing the UP late in the night into Monday. The warm front will keep low temperatures very mild. With lows in the upper 50s east and low to mid 60s west, they're closer to being like current seasonal highs. Winds will be light out of the south.

Memorial Day Monday will be warm with many highs in the 80s, but again a bit cooler east. It may even breach 90 in the western interior. Light rain is likely most of the day along with some possible thunderstorms. Winds will be a bit breezy out of the south.

Although there may be a few breaks in the rain, they should pick up again when the cold front with this system passes in the evening and overnight. The cold front could produce more storms. Some of these storms could be severe and windy. Any rain should clear away west to east as the cold front moves away.

Tuesday will be cooler, but only with highs that are more seasonal in the mid 50s to low 60s. There also may be a few lingering showers, but ultimately things should start to clear up Tuesday into Wednesday as high pressure moves in. Temperatures will steadily start to increase through next weekend and rain is not looking likely after Tuesday.

When all is said and done, total rainfall over the next 24 to 48 hours is looking to be maybe half an inch. I'm afraid that won't make a big impact on the wildfires, but it should help. There could be higher amounts of rain if thunderstorms pop up.
