IRON CO. -- On Friday, the David Levack murder trial reconvened at the Iron County Courthouse.
The 45-year-old Kingsford man stands accused of strangling 81-year-old Joyce Johnson of Stambaugh Township. The jury heard from various expert witnesses who worked the case. Two pathologists testified that the bruises found on the neck and face of Johnson's body showed clear signs of strangulation. Also brought in to testify was an expert in DNA analysis.
Lisa Ramos tested DNA that was taken throughout the house, but had no definite conclusions due to the low levels of DNA available.
"If my hands are really dry or there's not any friction or anything going on between myself and the object, that could effect the status of DNA being left behind on an object," said Ramos.
When police scanned the woods surrounding Johnson's home after her death, they discovered a Gatorade bottle. Police speculated that since it wasn't covered by leaves, it may have been thrown there recently, and the DNA results on the bottle did match Levack.
The beginning of next week, the prosecution is expected to wrap up, and then the defense will begin presenting its case.
