MARQUETTE -- The Warrior Relief Walk is set to take place Memorial Day, and organizers are looking for walkers and sponsors.
Last year the relief fund held its inaugural walk and had about 200 supporters walking to raise money for returning veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and those at the Jacobetti Home for Veterans.
This year they're hoping to double the number of participants and hope to get businesses on board to sponsor walkers.
"The whole point of the Memorial Day walk is for local people from Marquette County to get together and actually take the time to realize what Memorial Day is all about and that freedom isn't free. This year you can actually go ahead and purchase a $50 sign for your business and sponsor the walk," said Warrior Relief Fund President, Liz Mathie.
The walk is free for participants. Simply show up wearing red, white and blue at the Mattson Lower Harbor Park on Memorial Day. The walk will start at 9 a.m. and organizers ask that participants be there at least 20 minutes prior to start.
