MARQUETTE -- The Marquette Downtown Development Authority says as their parking fund remains in the red, there may be some major changes to the parking system in the next five years.
They say 30 percent of their maintenance budget is spent on snow plowing, sweeping, or painting the parking lot. They aren't making enough revenue to fund those ventures, as the city receives ticket violation fines.
The DDA says they believe they need to create more revenue, because there is little to cut.
"We could cut maintenance costs, but we're pretty much bare bones right now with that," said Executive Director, Mona Lang. "Our costs, we really try to keep a lid on, keep our costs very low."
The DDA hopes to bring in a consultant to conduct a parking study to generate possible revenue ideas. They say electronic parking meters are likely in the future for the city.
