MARQUETTE -- A filmmaker who dedicated a lot of time capturing the natural beauty of isle royal will speak Friday night as part of the Upper Peninsula Environmental Coalition celebration. George Desort made a number of films documenting Isle Royale. Desort will speak about his time in the wilderness and how he made his films. He originally comes from Chicago but the Upper Peninsula's natural beauty caught his eye.

"I just think it's great that they're here celebrating what's so great about the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, a lot of times we hear on the news what's wrong with places but this is a weekend where we talk about what's great about where we live and why we live here," said George Desort, filmmaker.

Desort's film Fortunate Wilderness is a close look at the wolf and moose studies on Isle Royale and was picked up by PBS. Desort will speak at the Landmark Inn Friday at 7pm and again on Saturday.
