GRAND MARAIS -- After a long fight, the little Lake Superior shoreline town of Grand Marais has seen a dream turn into reality.

Thursday night the Burt Township Board voted to award the contract for $4.8 million to Great Lakes Dock and Materials of Muskegon for construction of the harbor breakwater.

Township Supervisor and longtime advocate of the harbor repair, Jack Hubbard, told TV6 that, "After decades of broken promises, frustration and many tears, the community will finally see victory." Hubbard went on to thank all of the people that have supported him in this fight and fought alongside him.

"The first truck loaded with rock coming down the hill into Grand Marais will be something this town and all who love it will never forget," Hubbard added.

The next step in the project, the actual construction, should begin sometime in April.

The project is funded by state and township funds.
