HOUGHTON -- A couple of weeks ago, we brought you a story about nine-year-old Mackenzie Switzer who asked for shoe donations instead of presents for her birthday.

Following up on Mackenzie's "Kicks for Kids Campaign," which is now over, she's received more than 300 pairs of shoes and over $200 in donations to help with the cost of shipping.

Mackenzie could not resist emptying out all of those donation boxes for an up-close look at all of the shoes.

"I'm really happy that a lot of people donated shoes and money, and I just want to say thank you for donating shoes for the cause," said Mackenzie.

As for Mackenzie missing out on presents, she says there is always next year!

Mackenzie and her mom would like to thank the community for all of their support.

Next week they will take all of the shoes and send them to the organization Soles4Souls, which will distribute the shoes to people in need.
