Marquette Mountain hosted its annual Polar Plunge
MARQUETTE -- Saturday's warm temperatures were perfect conditions for taking a dip in some ice cold water.
Marquette Mountain hosted its annual Polar Plunge. The event is organized by the law enforcement Torch Run and the Special Olympics. Before the plunge, participants paraded their costumes. Plungers were required to dress up. They also needed to sign a waiver and wear shoes for safety.
Each plunger was asked for a minimum donation of $75.
"I have plunged before, and it's not as bad as you might think. It may be a little like 'Oh!' when you first go in, but it's for such a great cause," said organizer Heidi Swajanen.
There were 37 participants this year. The Polar Plunge raised more than $6,600. Half goes to the Special Olympics Area 36 and the rest goes to the Special Olympics of Michigan.
