MARQUETTE -- The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is expanding its coverage of the recreation passport.

When you register your vehicle, the recreation passport is a $10 fee that not only allows you access to campgrounds, trails, parks and boat launches, but also includes the passport perks discount program that offers discounts on more than 1,000 businesses in Michigan.

"Any revenue that is raised by the recreation passport goes directly back into recreation.   So whether that is maintaining state forest campgrounds or grooming the ski trails or maintaining our state parks, it all goes right back into that; it's 100 percent going back into recreation," said DNR spokesperson, Debbie Munson Badini.

The passport is good for one year and allows access to all of Michigan's 100 state parks and recreation areas.
