HOUGHTON COUNTY -- The inmate who failed to return to work camp and hid in his girlfriend's basement was sentenced in Houghton County Circuit Court early on Friday.

The judge gave 26-year-old Derek Gherna of Houghton nine months Houghton County Jail time and credit for 59 days served.

Back in January Gherna pled guilty to his second count of attempted escape from felony jail sentence and his first count of escape from felony jail sentence was dismissed because of a plea deal.
