MARQUETTE COUNTY -- Marquette County Probate Judge Michael Anderegg announced on Monday that he will not be seeking reelection.

Anderegg is the longest serving Probate Judge in the history of Marquette County.  He began serving on January 1, 1977, and has been re-elected five times.

He says that the announcement of his retirement will not result in a loss of a judgeship for Marquette County.  Governor Snyder signed a bill into law that will eventually reduce the number of Marquette County Circuit Court judges when one of the current judges retires or is ineligible to run again.

Anderegg said his work, which primarily involved working with juveniles who are abused, neglected or delinquent, has been challenging, but rewarding.

"It has been a privilege to serve the people of Marquette County," said Anderegg.  "I have been fortunate to have worked with many talented and dedicated judges, agency representatives, and community volunteers over the years.  My staff has been exceptional.  As a result of their efforts, we have been able to develop innovative, cost-effective programs, and Marquette County has consistently been recognized for excellence in juvenile and probate court programming."

Anderegg expects to remain involved with the juvenile court system during his retirement, as well as spending time with family and recreational activities.

"My work has been an engaging and important part of my life," Anderegg added.
