MARQUETTE -- The 1430th Engineers Unit got together Thursday in preparation for the Freedom Salute being held this Saturday at Negaunee's Lakeview School.
The soldiers got in formation and discussed plans for the upcoming celebration. Following the formation, the soldiers completed medical checkups as one of the final steps to their re-integration to normal service.
One of the most difficult aspects of the soldiers' return has been finding employment.
"I challenge the local employers to seek out Guard members to try and find those members that have served overseas. They've done great things for their country, and now they have a great set of skills that they can build on your organization...they can be a great asset," said 1430th Lt. Pat Riley.
The Freedom Salute will be held at the Lakeview Gymnasium in Negaunee, Saturday at 9 a.m.
The soldiers and their families will be honored with a folded flag set, commemorative coin and medal.
