FELTCH -- The first annual North Dickinson Youth Leadership Conference was at North Dickinson High School.  The classes were taught by the students themselves.

Students teaching students--it's an interesting concept.

“So far we have got the kids to talk a lot,” says Makenzie Jacobson, “more than they normally would.  We had to break them out of their shells.”

The students participated in three different workshops throughout the day.  All the workshops are headed by the North Dickinson student council.

“They have a scenario that they're planning a dance and they're going to invite other groups, other than their school,” said Cory Roell. “And they have to figure out a way to use technology and media to advertise the event and to plan the event.”

“We're hoping that the kids today will be able to come away with some skills to help them be great leaders in their schools and throughout the community,” said Rebecca Nord.

Over 120 students from seven different schools participated in the event.  The school got the idea to host the event from a similar event that their student council attended.

“And now we have invited all these kids here, free, to spread our knowledge that we learned from other students just like us,” said Cayla Carey.

The student council is very happy to share their knowledge with other schools. This is the first year that North Dickinson School has put on the event, and they're going to try to make it even bigger next year.
