NEGAUNEE -- Teal Lake in Negaunee was alive with activity Saturday.
It was the 17th annual Heikki Lunta winterfest. The main event was the fishing derby. About 150 fishers signed up to compete for the largest catch. Cash prizes were awarded to those who caught the largest sucker, perch and walleye. A raffle was also available for other prizes. The derby was organized by the Negaunee Irontown Association, a local non-profit organization.
Registration was $6 for adults and $2 for kids.
"The money goes into the Irontown Association. We do events like this festival, the fishing derby, and then we do future events like the Pioneer Days coming up in July, and then we have scholarships and things like that, so all the money goes back to the organization to give back out to the community," said Laura Sironen, a member.
The winterfest ended Saturday night with a fireworks display.
