MARQUETTE -- The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth released its November unemployment data for the state's 46 counties, and the numbers are mixed.
Michigan had a downward jump in its unemployment rate. It fell to 9.8 percent, down 0.8 percent from October.
In the Upper Peninsula, Marquette and Menominee counties lead the way with the lowest numbers, 6.5 and 6.1 percent, while Baraga County continues to struggle at 16 percent.
Experts say we can continue to see unemployment fall as the winter tourist season begins.
"The manufacturing sector seems to be what's driving a lot of improvement in the overall economy," said Northern Initiatives President Dennis West. "But tourism will begin to take hold at last so we now have some snow so that will help some of the winter seasonally-affected communities with tourism to show some improvement."
Overall, Michigan's unemployment rate fell 2.6 percent from last year.
