ESCANABA -- The Jig It Ice Fishing Extravaganza is coming up on January 28, and it will be at a new location in Escanaba.
The event will be at the Escanaba Harbor area. Last year it was held in Kipling. Jig It raises money for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the bay area's mentoring programs.
Around $7,000 was raised during last year's event. People have already started registering for the ice fishing extravaganza.
"And as our economic climate has changed, so has the need for services to our youth, whether it's our program or other programs. It always seems that it's an increase in youth services that is needed," said BBBS Executive Director Tanya Schuster.
Registration on January 28 is at 8 a.m., and the actual contest begins at 11 a.m.
