MARQUETTE -- Nighttime is not the only time for New Year's Eve fun.

The City of Marquette has organized its third annual New Year's Eve disco ball drop at Lakeview Arena. It's an open skate event for everyone. It took place during the usual open skate hours in the afternoon. Music, fog, and lights allowed skaters to relive the '70s. The event also included a costume competition.

Admission was $3, but anyone who came dressed in disco attire only needed to pay $2.

"Some people just like to come and listen to the '70s music, and kinda relive those days, so it is a fun event for the whole family to get out until the night events happen, and maybe the kids aren't going out at night, but they can come to the event," said Cindy and Willie Noble, parks and recreation coordinators for Marquette.

This year saw about 150 skaters.
