HOUGHTON -- The inmate who failed to return to work camp last Thursday was arraigned in Houghton County District Court Monday.

Twenty-six-year-old Derek Gherna of Houghton is charged with felony escape from jail.
    
According to the Houghton County Sheriff's office, Gherna was taken into custody without incident after they found him in the basement of his girlfriend's home.
   
Gherna's girlfriend, Kelly Jo Heikkinen from Calumet, is also facing the same felony escape from jail charge.
    
A preliminary examination for Gherna and Heikkinen is scheduled for December 21.
