HOUGHTON -- The Keweenaw Research Center held a flag raising ceremony on Friday.  KRC is an engineering research facility that is part of Michigan Tech.

During the ceremony the U.S., State of Michigan, and Michigan Tech's flags were all raised by the ROTC Color Guard of Michigan Tech.

"The building was erected in August of last year but we hadn't had time to put the flag pole up," said KRC Director Jay Meldrum.  "KRC does a lot for military work to honor the veterans and we do a lot of work for the military so we thought it was fitting to put a nice flag pole up."

The flag pole's foundation design construction and date block were all donated by local businesses and they were honored after the ceremony.

Many onlookers did come out to watch the raising of the flags.  The flags in front of KRC's old building have been retired and the three flags raised on Friday will now permanently fly above the KRC building.
