DCHS named "Upper Peninsula Recycler of the Year"
IRON MOUNTAIN -- Dickinson County Health Services recently won the Upper Peninsula Recycler of the Year award. For a company that shreds over twenty tons of documents each year, this is a big deal. They also work with a huge amount of cardboard, which is also recycled.
As a medical facility, they also create a fair amount of chemicals, but they never leave the premises. They even make sure linens are re-used, donating them to local church sewing programs to be used in quilts.
“It just goes to show you that the employees have really pitched in and made an effort to recycle. Especially at a time when recycling is not a big thing,” DCHS Recycling Chairman Brian Lehto says.
DCHS is also a mercury free facility, and they say they take green building construction into consideration for all new additions.
