DELTA COUNTY -- A 21-year-old Escanaba woman charged with abusing her own baby appeared in Delta County District Court Monday for a preliminary exam.

Angel Dawn Micheau faces two counts of child abuse in the first and second degree.

The baby girl was three months old when the alleged abuse happened in April.

An OSF St. Francis nurse did a physical assessment on the baby and testified that she saw what appeared to be burns.

A child protection investigator from the Department of Human Services was called to the stand and said the baby wasn't crying and seemed lethargic, despite her injuries.

"I observed that partway up her back was redness, probably just below the shoulder blade line.  And on the buttocks there were blisters," said the investigator.

According to police, the baby is recovering and is now in foster care.

Micheau remains lodged in the Delta County Jail.  No date has been set yet for her pretrial conference in circuit court.
