IRON MOUNTAIN -- Halloween is just about here and we've got some tips from the Michigan State Police to make sure that your kids are trick or treating safely.
First off, trick or treat in a familiar neighborhood. Don't stray to unfamiliar places.
If the kids are a bit older, make sure they are with friends of the same age, and if you're dealing with young children always have them go with a trusted adult.
Flashlights and glow sticks are useful to alert cars to your presence.
"As long as people are looking out for their kids because the kids get excited and shoot for the road," said Sgt. Brian Carlson of the Michigan State Police. "Just watch the kids making sure that they're not running out in front of cars or anything like that."
On a final note, make sure all candy is checked thoroughly before eating.
