Mine Games is based on mining and the history of the Copper Country
LAURIUM -- A Michigan Tech alumnus combined the history of mining and the Copper Country itself in his first novel.
The book signing was held at Victorian Hall Bed & Breakfast Tuesday afternoon. Mel Laurila and his wife lived in the house 20 years ago when he first started writing Mine Games.
It’s a novel about two entrepreneurs from Chicago who invest in an abandoned mine site in the Copper Country. Their success quickly follows mysterious events.
“I hope that the people in the Copper Country see a reflection of the things that they love in the Copper Country,” said Mel Laurila. “And I hope people who aren’t from this area are able to see what this area does hold, and in addition to that, there’s a little bit of a moral message that goes along subtly in the background."
