MARQUETTE -- On Thursday, Northern Michigan University construction students got a chance to feel out the job market during the Jacobetti Job Fair.

Companies from all over the country brought in representatives to talk with students about potential careers in construction.

The students are part of NMU's Construction Management Program and spoke with the representatives about jobs and internships.

This is the sixth year for the construction job fair, and organizers say it has grown over the years, with two more companies joining in this year.  Organizers say it's important for the companies to get to know students as they progress through the program.

"They will catch the students when they are in their sophomore, junior year and maybe employ them for a summer," said Assistant Director Steven LaFond.  "If they like them, they will be back to hire them for a permanent job."

The fair on Thursday was one of a series of job fairs held by NMU.  The next one will happen next week and will encompass all university programs.
