They raised more than $500 Saturday for an expansion on their parenting programs, which could affect the entire community

HARVEY -- They hosted the "Silver Creek Trail Run for Parents," the first challenge run the organization has held on their campus.

A few dozen people battled the weather and took on 1K, 5K, and 10K runs.

It was all an effort to open up the 40-acre campus to the public and raise funds and awareness about the importance of good parenting.

"A lot of the children we receive here at our facility are the subjects of maybe not the best parenting, and so much of what we do is based on parenting education, helping parents provide good stable homes for their children," says Rich Rossway of Public Relations/Fund Development.

Teaching Family Homes is a non-profit organization caring for troubled children and families.

A variety of non-profit agencies also hosted an afternoon parenting fair following the run.
