GWINN -- The Gwinn School Board made a difficult decision on Monday night. They called an end to the varsity football season.
Safety for the players was the main concern for the cancellation.
Several injuries have occurred so far this season, making only 12 players available for the rest of the season. School officials say that reason alone is enough to put an end to the season.
"You know, we looked into having 12 kids in pads and having to play 48 minutes, both ways," said Athletic Director Dwayne VanDrese. "We just didn't feel like that was a good, healthy situation for the kids."
This doesn't signal the end for football at Gwinn High School, as the junior varsity has over 20 players and are undefeated so far this season.
