MUNISING -- As the Michigan State Police continue to consolidate services and lower the number of posts, a big change begins Monday for Upper Michigan.
Effective Monday, the Munising Post will no longer be open to the General Public. Early next year, the Negaunee Regional Post will consolidate with the Munising post to serve both Marquette and Alger Counties.
In addition, the Stephenson post will also stop regular business hours starting Monday.
Then, next summer, the Gladstone post will consolidate with Stephenson to provide state police services for Delta and Menominee Counties.
Both the Munising and Stephenson posts will become transitional detachments. These changes are a continuation of a plan announced in March to cut the number of state police posts from 62 to 29.
