How to relax in such stressful times

The APA says it's as simple as pen and paper--write a list of the things that stress you out and that will help you gain a better sense of control
MARQUETTE -- You can find it at your workplace, your home and yes, even on your long awaited vacation: stress. It’s everywhere, it doesn't discriminate. People have tried different ways to fight it.
"I take a walk in the woods," said Louise Wilcox of Big Bay.
"Sometimes we play board games," said Rob Oas of Negaunee.
"I like to either get on Facebook or get on Skype and talk with my grandchildren," said Marlene Hamel of Marquette.
While we'd all love to take a time-out to do the things we know relax us, our busy schedules don't always allow us. But the American Psychological Association does offer some stress management solutions, and don't worry workaholic, they can be done right in your office.
"When you learn now to do these things, it's very simple," said Dr. Nancy Monitor, public education coordinator for the American Psychological Association. "You can do this for a minute or two in the middle of the day."

"Most of the things we stress out about are things we cannot directly change or control," Dr. Monitor said. "Once you realize that you can't control the weather, you can't control whether your boss is going to be in a good mood or bad mood, you can't control the stock market, once you begin to let go of those things you really can't control, then you can focus on the things that you can control."
You can also rapidly relax yourself physically. Deep breathing is highly underestimated. Put your shoulders back, sit tall, and take slow breaths in and out from your diaphragm. Also, if you've been cooped up too long, cabin fever is real...get outside, even if it's for only five minutes.
If your stress has become unmanageable on your own, don't shy away from scheduling a therapy session with a psychologist.
