Here in the U.P., we're fortunate to have a world of wilderness to explore
HANCOCK -- But all of those woods can be treacherous and can pose a challenge for emergency rescue crews and critical care units. That's why Sunday was spent preparing, hands on, with the University of Michigan Survival Flight Team in Hancock.
U.P. first responders, nurses and paramedics brushed up on their patient stabilization and management and rescue and survival techniques--things the survival flight team has mastered.
"Severity of an illness that we see on a regular basis is something they may go several months between seeing; cases of that severity up here to having the opportunity to go through it with people who have done it regularly. Doing it with high tech simulators gives people a real opportunity to polish their skills," says Dr. Brad Uren of the Survival Flight Team.
The conference continues through Monday.
