MARQUETTE -- From New Orleans to Chicago to right here in the U.P., blues lovers went on a journey of blues music from all over the country Tuesday night at the Peter White Public Library.
Marquette's own Flat Broke Blues Band entertained and educated the crowd with a program of songs designed to introduce them to the variations of blues music in different parts of the county.
"You bring your own experiences to it, and when you're writing about the places that you know, you bring that local flavor to it," explained lead singer of Flat Broke, Lorrie Hayes.
The event was part of the library's monthly Bluesday Tuesday series, which works to keep the tradition of blues music alive.
It also kicked off the 2011 Blues Fest, which starts this Saturday at Lower Harbor in downtown Marquette and continues through Sunday night.
