MARQUETTE -- Signs of progress can be seen down at the Founders Landing project in Marquette. A ribbon cutting ceremony Monday morning marked the partial opening of the boardwalk along Founders Landing.
City commissioners had hoped the boardwalk would be open by July 4th, but technical problems interfered with that plan.
Despite the delay, city officials believe the boardwalk will provide the public an excellent opportunity to enjoy the aesthetic beauty of Marquette's Lower Harbor.
"This is what the people had been wanting--a nice area to sit, enjoy the scenery in the morning, watch the sun rise in the morning, watch the boat races during the day," said Marquette City Commissioner Johnny DePetro. "This is a perfect fit for this part of the shoreline."
According to DePetro, the city plans to build a marina adjacent to the boardwalk. As of right now, the tentative date of completion for that is 2014.
