SANDS TOWNSHIP -- Two people are hospitalized after a car crash in Sands Township Wednesday.

It happened just after 4 p.m. on M-553 near Oakridge Drive.
    
Michigan State Police say a vehicle, driven by 49-year-old Donald Marquardt of Marquette, was on M-553 when it crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a pickup truck driven by 51-year-old Steven Balmes of Marquette.
    
Marquardt had to be extricated from the vehicle.  Both Marquardt and Balmes were taken to the hospital.
    
No word on their condition.  The accident remains under investigation.
