MARQUETTE -- Governor Rick Snyder continued his tour of the U.P. on Wednesday with a stop at Northern Michigan University.  He stopped by the campus' Public TV13 station to tape a Media Meet session with a panel of local media, including a reporter from TV6 and a representatives from Great Lakes Radio.

Snyder touched on a number of hot button issues, including mining in the U.P.

The governor has shown support for mining to create jobs, but on Wednesday, he insisted it should be done with a watchful eye.

"Mining is an excellent opportunity, and the good part is we had legislation already in place that put in the toughest regulations in the country," said Governor Snyder.  "So my view is now that we had gone through that exercise, when people want to mine, if they're going to comply with those rules, we should move ahead, and we will do our fiduciary duties to make sure it's being done at a thoughtful, environmentally responsible way."

Snyder's Media Meet session will air Saturday, August 27 at 6:30 p.m. on WNMU Public TV13.
