BIG BAY -- Kids in the Big Bay area are getting their hands dirty this week creating ceramics at the Liberty Children's Art Camp.
Monday was the first day of the camp which will continue through Friday. There's a morning and an afternoon session. The morning session is a structured class, and the afternoon session includes free clay and wheel work. This is the sixth year for the arts camp in Powell Township.
Organizers say it's a great way to bring rural kids closer together.
"For most of the kids who come here, they love art and it's something they have in common, and so they come and sort of feed off of each other's ideas or they're commenting on each other's art and it's encouraging. They're art making and it's something they all have in common," says camp director Carol Phillips.
The camp is free for kids from the Big Bay area. There's a five dollar donation fee for students from Marquette. There's no registration for either session. To attend the camp, come to the Outdoor Studio behind Powell Township School at 10:30 a.m. for the morning session and at 1 p.m. for the afternoon session.
