NMU turns to biomass for energy

MARQUETTE -- Northern Michigan University's Board of Trustees approved proceeding with the construction of a $16 million biomass plant.
The plant would provide almost 90 percent of the university's steam consumption and 15 percent of its electricity.
The plant will be fueled by wood chips and wood byproducts from the U.P.
Construction could begin as early as this fall, with completion scheduled for April of 2013.
