MARQUETTE -- We have been seeing a light colored, twin engine plane flying low around Upper Michigan for the past couple of weeks.  We found out who it is and what they're doing.

First, it's a Beech 200 King-Air aircraft.  The two-person crew is working for the Army Corps of Engineers.

According to those with the Army Corps, the crew is flying over the coastal regions of the U.P., gathering data about shoals and sediment levels used in making decisions about dredging.  This kind of aerial survey is being done all over the country and is funded every five to ten years.

They work out of Mobile, Alabama at the JLBTCX.  For those that want to know, that's the Joint Airborne Lidar Bathymetry Technical Center.

You can check out their website for more information on the group.
