ESCANABA -- The Escanaba Civic Center kicked off its recreational soccer summer activity on Monday, and over 80 kids signed up to learn the sport.

Aaron and Tom are the two instructors, and they're teaching three groups of kids soccer fundamentals like kicking and passing.

Wednesday was the first day of practice for the group of six and seven year olds.

The activity exposes the kids to team play and gave them plenty of exercise in Ludington Park.  It wasn't an official match, but parents were just as enthusiastic.

"We try always to make them have fun because if somebody knows the skills at this age, it's all about whether or not they want to go on with it and have fun with the program and have fun with the game," said instructor Aaron Porath.

The kids will next learn advanced soccer skills.

The sessions end on July 15.
