MARQUETTE -- Younger elementary students at Father Marquette school got a special treat to celebrate the second to last day of classes.
Thursday they put the books away and left their classrooms to enjoy a picnic in Mattson Lower Harbor Park.
Pre-K through 4th grade students enjoyed hot dogs, chips, and games with their peers, parents and teachers for a final farewell to the school year.
"Some families unfortunately are moving away, and some children will not have the opportunity to see their friends again. Some will just be gone for the summer months, so it's a last time to get together and enjoy each other and have a great memory to start the summer," said school principal, Jackie Wright.
The Coast Guard was also on hand to give students tours of their boats.
Thursday was the last full day of school for Father Marquette's elementary students.
