It was a beautiful day for a hike here in the Upper Peninsula
MARQUETTE TWP. -- Saturday was National Trails Day, sponsored by the American Hiking Society. All over the country, people celebrated by hiking and building trails.
Locally, members of the North Country Trail Hikers chapter sponsored a 'Made with Natural Ingredients' hike at the North Country Trailhead in Marquette Township.
The event is a way to get people excited about the outdoors.
"We certainly would like to have people join our chapter, help support the trail, come out and help us work and build new trails. We have some AmeriCorps kids coming up next week, so we're excited about that. They're going to help us with some projects on the trail," says Lorana Jinkerson.
The North Country Trail is the longest scenic trail in the country at 4600 miles. The chapter takes care of about 120 miles of that trail that runs through Alger, Marquette, and Baraga counties.
