MARQUETTE -- For those who do not know what happened, there was a rare occurrence along the Lake Superior shoreline by the Frazier boat house in Marquette Monday.

A seiche, which is a standing wave on a partially enclosed body of water, made its way into the harbor.

They often go unnoticed unless it's something big like this one was.

The effect is quite brief, usually a few minutes, with water levels dropping in a matter of minutes and then rising again.

According to TV6 Chief Meteorologist Karl Bohnak, this was most likely due to a storm further out on Lake Superior.
