RAPID RIVER -- Between three and four thousand spectators lined the streets to show their community support for our troops.

“I’m very excited,” said Amber Lenards.  “It's a chance for us to support our troops coming home and how they're fighting for our freedom."

The parade was especially meaningful for those who had loved ones in the Armed Forces.

“My father is a Marine and my youngest brother was also in the Gulf War," said Jennifer Ware.

Superior Pipes and Drums entertained the crowd with traditional Highland music and dancing.  And even they couldn't help but be filled with a sense of patriotism.

“And especially something like this for Memorial Day,” explains Pierre Ogea of Superior Pipes and Drums.  “Especially when you see parents with young kids or grandparents and grandchildren.  I think it's a great opportunity for us to tell why we're here, why we're celebrating, and the whole purpose of Memorial Day."

Barb Roberts is an active member of the Rapid River community.  She was selected to be the Grand Marshall of the parade.

The Rapid River Lions Club and Rapid River Legion Post 301 co-sponsored the event.  The fun starts all over again next January when they prepare for the 37th annual Memorial Day parade.
