Over 3,000 people in Michigan are waiting for an organ, and Thursday, Secretary of State Ruth Johnson unveiled a proposed "Gift of Life" license plate program.
The license plate would cost an additional $35 with $25 of that going to the "Gift of Life" program.
A contest would be held to determine the look of the new plates.
In addition to the plates, a newly designed driver's license will start being issued this month which will signify registered donors with a heart on the front.
"Michigan had more than 700 life saving transplants last year; there are still 3,000 people waiting on the transplant list even though we had 319,000 new donors added to the registry last year. We are still working hard with the Michigan Gift of Life program to make that number even higher," said SOS Manager, Kacey Miller.
The registry contains about two million names which represents about 28 percent of Michigan drivers over the age of 18.
