ISHPEMING -- Downtown Ishpeming has been transformed into a carnival fairway.

The weather may not have been the best, but the Skerbeck Carnival opened Thursday.  The carnival features many traditional rides, such as the Tilt-a-Whirl and the Ferris Wheel and also a new addition, the Himalaya.

Many Ishpeming vendors join with traditional carnival fare, such as curly fries, corn dogs and elephant ears.

Organizers say it's a great time for everyone regardless of age.

"It's easy to get around; if you have a baby buggy, it makes it real nice," said Kurt Kipling of the Skerbeck Carnival.  "We even have wheelchair accessible bathrooms set up for people, so really set up for everybody, but it's very, very family oriented."

Proceeds from the carnival go to the Ishpeming Fire Department and Bay Cliff Health Camp.

The carnival opens Friday at 4 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.
