MARQUETTE -- Tuesday marks the annual Secretary of State Buddy Day in Michigan.
The event encourages Michigan drivers to sign up for the Organ Donor Registry.
Volunteers and buddies, who are often organ or tissue recipients, set up shop at all Secretary of State offices Tuesday to provide information on being an organ donor to motorists.
The goal is to add as many names to the donor registry as possible.
Last year, 4,000 names were added to the registry on buddy day, and volunteers are hoping this year's event is as successful.
"There's always the chance that something can happen," said Peggy Lindeman of the Gwinn Lions Club. "If there's a little bit of a chance you can give somebody that life to continue on, you can't take them with you, so you might as well give someone else to opportunity to continue living."
Volunteers want you to know that you can register to be an organ donor any day.
For more on how to register, head to the Gift of Life website or Michigan Eye-Bank's website.
