MARQUETTE -- NMU students got a chance to hear political scholar and author Paul Hollander's thoughts on communism and Nazism and their similarities to recent fundamentalist Muslim regimes.
Dr. Paul Hollander, a professor emeritus at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, spoke to students at Jamrich Hall Tuesday.
He gave his insights from both a sociological and personal perspective of communism and Nazism and the similarities between Islamic states like Iran and their use of nationalism to control citizens.
"Each of these systems or movements wanted to realize certain political objectives, and that lead to an idea of intolerance," said Hollander.
Dr. Hollander is also the author of several books and articles on political violence and totalitarianism.
