BARAGA -- Baraga Area Schools are deciding whether or not a multi-grade classroom could offer a better balance in the elementary school.
With only 29 third graders and 33 fourth graders this year, the school is looking for a way to distribute the students into three medium-sized classrooms.
A committee has been meeting monthly and working with the community throughout the year to research the multi-classroom option. If approved, it would only be used when necessary and for grade levels determined to be appropriate.
"With the MEAP Test and when it's administrated, we need to look closely at whether the curriculum can be delivered in a multi-grade setting, so that students are prepared for those state level tests," said Elementary Principal Jennifer Lynn.
The school board is expected to decide on the multi-grade classroom by the end of the school year.
